About the painting
I am deeply grateful for my hands and feel blessed by the work of them. So this paiting is a celebration of the human hand and is not specific to any gender or age, even though it is my daughter’s hand. It is a study of the hand in its purest form. It is a gentle gesture, open palmed, that represents both giving and receiving. For in order to receive, we must give. We must give ourselves to God, to receive his full love. We must be open to change, open to new things and to receiving love and guidance.
In this sense it is also the hand of God, as we are made in the image of God and formed by his hands.
Reference image
A photograph of my daughter’s hand (age 13 years). The photograph was taken with a slight fish eye lens, which added an extra distortion to the hand, making the fingers and hand look thicker and older. I then removed the background to show the hand and arm in isolation on a black background, in Chiaroscuro to add a contrast between light and dark, giving it extra depth and volume.
Ready to Hang
As framing is a personal choice, please note that all paintings are sold and shipped as unframed, as standard shipping practice for Painted canvases.
This painting features a 2cm gallery-wrap profile and arrives ready to hang, unframed with D-rings and high-quality picture wire on the back of the wooden stretcher bars. The edges are cleanly hand-painted, arriving completely ready to hang on your wall, without a frame.
Framing
If you prefer a framed look, it is perfectly suited for a standard canvas float frame, which can be easily fitted by any local high-street framer. The D-rings can be unscrewed for the purpose of framing.
