The first in a series of textured impasto, Historically Grounded Realism paintings of Jesus. As if you are passing him in the streets of Capernaum during the first Century and time of his ministry.

About the painting

This painting is inspired by the TV series The Chosen, which brought to life the story of Jesus in a new and intimate way. I felt led to create a series of paintings of a historically accurate, authentic looking Jesus Christ. Both an ordinary, yet supernatural man of the 1st Century, as he is described in the gospel, as if you are passing him by in the streets of Capernaum. His head is covered in the traditional way, protected from the hot midday sun.

Using a natural, warm, earth-toned palette, I wanted to show him as he may have been during his time of ministry. His expression is calm and welcoming, authoritarian and kind. Open and ready to hear you speak, to invite you to join him and offer his help and wisdom. He is blessing you with his eyes and I wanted to make him as real as I could, with oil paint. Not like a stranger in the street, but someone who already knows you by name.

As framing is a personal choice, please note that all paintings are sold and shipped as unframed, as standard shipping practice for Painted canvases.

This painting features a 2cm gallery-wrap profile and arrives ready to hang, unframed with D-rings and high-quality picture wire on the back of the wooden stretcher bars. The edges are cleanly hand-painted, arriving completely ready to hang on your wall, without a frame.

Framing

If you prefer a framed look, it is perfectly suited for a standard 35 x 45cm (13 ¾" x 17 ¾") canvas float frame, which can be easily fitted by any local high-street framer. The D-rings can be unscrewed for the purpose of framing.
