Here we see his expression of sacrifice in the burden of the cross that Jesus carried for us all. It was a hard painting to make as I felt his suffering. It can be hard to understand, but is a profound and central message for humanity. Reflecting the immense physical, emotional, and spiritual anguish He endured, for the redemption of us all, to give us eternal life. Suffering extreme physical, emotional, and spiritual agony, already weakened by brutal scourging, a crown of thorns, and blood loss, He carried a heavy crossbeam (est. 75–125 lbs) roughly 1/3 mile to Golgotha. This is the ultimate act of love and endurance, that changed everything.

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'” – Matthew 16:24

When Jesus calls us to take up our cross, He invites us to embrace the challenges and sacrifices that come with following Him. It’s a personal journey that requires us to let go of our desires and follow His will for our lives. Each of us carries unique burdens, and while they may be heavy at times, they also serve a purpose. Embracing our cross allows us to grow in our relationship with Christ, develop perseverance and build our faith, as we learn to rely on God’s strength. It is a reminder that we are not alone; we walk this path together, supported by one another and guided by the Holy Spirit within us.

Reference image

From a series of images Created with AI (Chat GPT), edited in Photoshop and interpreted into a painting.
