This view reminds me of my grandparents, as they used to sit and eat sandwiches, looking out at this view. It was a favourite place for them to visit, during their retirement years and my sister and I often went there with them, as children. It is a beautiful and dramatic view of the English Channel, on a clear Spring day, you can see for miles around. The calming scene is full of life and colour, with the fields in bloom overlooking the calm sea.

The lighthouse stands in isolation, vulnerable to the weather, a protector of the coast, and especially in the dark. All night it casts its light out to sea, as a warning to passing boats, protecting them from harm. It reminds me of God and how he is always looking out for us, even when we are asleep.

Artwork details

Canvas size: 40x 30 cm (16" x 12")

Canvas depth: 1.8 cm (0.79")

Medium: Oil paint

Surface: Cotton treated stretched Canvas

Date of creation: 14th January 2026

Varnish: Gamblin Gamvar Satin varnish (12 September 2026)

Ready to Hang

As framing is a personal choice, please note that all paintings are sold and shipped as unframed, as standard shipping practice for Painted canvases.

This painting features a 2cm gallery-wrap profile and arrives ready to hang, unframed with D-rings and high-quality picture wire on the back of the wooden stretcher bars.
