I finally heard His call in the darkness and we were reunited. He holds me close, protects and comforts me, as He does for all who are found by Him. She faced constant persecution and rejection from the world, yet remained steadfast in her calling. This painting set me off on the journey. At the time I said yes, but I wasn’t even sure if I could do it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eDennis had already bought some of my drawings and at the end of 2025 asked for a scene showing St Francis of Assisi blessing a dove, surrounded by animals and some birds. This time he asked for it in colour, which to me was confirmation of what I was called to do, to learn to paint in oil. It was both exciting and nerve racking.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eI created several sketches and different compositions for him to choose from. We tweaked some of the details as I moved into the final drawing and into my first oil painting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eI gave up work and cleared out my mums garage to create an Art studio with black drapes, an easel and palettes made from some glass I had found. It was here that I taught myself to paint from a limited palette, like the old masters. I felt guided by The Creator and His Holy Spirit. It is purposefully colourful, whilst he remains calm and centred in his internal conversation. Much like me, he often retreated to the mountains to pray to His father, to connect and receive guidance. It is a testament to his endurance, suffering for mankind and praying for their redemption. Jesus is seen here seated and restful in prayer on top of a mountain, away from the noise of the world and physically closer to God. There is a slight wind blowing his hair back to reveal his face, which is calm and at peace. The setting sun forms a halo around his head, as he is also lit by his own light, as he is the light and saviour. I love the blue of the flowers and the overall natural composition of the small flowers. The shape of the branch at the bottom reminds me of hands in prayer, offering up the delicate flowers to be admired and enjoyed, as if cradling the petals as an offering of love and hope. The centre of each flower looks like a sun burst. As their name suggests, they do not last for very long, so I wanted to paint them as they can remain for longer and we do not forget the beauty of nature and Gods creation. In fact, my painting makes them bigger than real life, in true celebration of their intricate design. It can be hard to understand, but is a profound and central message for humanity. Reflecting the immense physical, emotional, and spiritual anguish He endured, for the redemption of us all, to give us eternal life. Suffering extreme physical, emotional, and spiritual agony, already weakened by brutal scourging, a crown of thorns, and blood loss, He carried a heavy crossbeam (est. 75–125 lbs) roughly 1\/3 mile to Golgotha. I endured a type of suffering in doing it, as it brought me closer to his torment. Pain is part of life and can teach us many things. The storm we may have just felt passes in His presence and He is walking out onto a calm, flat sea, into a sunrise that shows a new day is dawning. Each day I walk the dog along the narrow paths of our local area, in Brighton. The summer of 2026 was hotter than normal and so the blackberries came early. The brambles that grow wild are like the events in life that grow and can tangle in our minds and spirit. But thanks to the grace of God, they also bear gifts for the world. Seeing and hearing this rushing flow of living water was a sudden, abundant outpouring of the Holy Spirit, bringing me deep joy and wonder.
